  Eligibility for Loan
  Conditions for credit vary from one category of borrowers to another. The eligible categories are as follows
  • Individuals
  • Group of individuals
  • Co-operative society
  • Sole- Proprietorship
  • Partnership enterprise
  • Limited liability company
 Forms of credit disbursement
 
  • Non-cash disbursement - The bank may disburse in kind or by making payment on behalf of the beneficiary customer according to the invoices submitted. In this case the cash disbursement is allowed only in payment of services like farm labour.
  • Cash disbursement - The credit is given outright to the beneficiary to finance the approved activity.
  • Medium-scale/Large-scale Business loan/overdraft advance - Credit is made available to medium-to-large scale business concerns for agriculture - related operations.
  • Special project financing - The bank provides credit by participating in the project on equity basis.
   
 Loan-making procedure and approval
 

 Applicants are advised to observe the three steps involved in the processing of loan requests.

  1. All applications for financial assistance should be directed to the Branch where the applicant's account is held or a branch near the project site. On receipt of a request for loan, the Credit Officer may invite the applicant for an interview. After which application forms may then be given out to be completed.
  2. The credit officer of the branch in change will verify the information furnished by the applicant. Where applicable, the project site may be visited. The credit officer will assemble the necessary data to assess the applicant's credit needs and also ascertain the economic, managerial, marketing/commercial and technical aspects of the proposed project.
  3.  The credit officer finally prepares an appraisal report and submits it for the consideration of the appropriate loan-approving authority. Depending on the amount of loan involved, the credit recommendations will be considered at any of the following levels:

Security
 

 In all cases, the applicant will be required o provide security and/or collateral for the loan. The may take several forms, depending on the terms and conditions, nature and size of the facility granted.

  • Cash collateral in blocked account
  • Group executive guarantee
  • Personal guarantee
  • Stocks, bonds and bills
  • Life policies
  • Indemnities
  • Immovable properties
  • Assignments
   
Execution of Documents
 

To give legal backing to the agreement reached with the prospective customer, the following documents, among others, are duly executed between the Bank and the applicant and the stamping fees charged to the applicant.

  • Heads of Agreement
  • Contract of Indemnity
  • Promissory Notes
  • Mortgage deeds and other legal documents assessed on the basis of the total amounts involved.
   
Who should approach ADB for assistance?
 

 In approaching ADB for assistance, you may be any one of the following

  • Getting started and having invested in basic farm infrastructure and farm implements or equipment in farming or any agriculture-related ventures as Main business or Second business
  • An established farmer or operator in the agricultural industry interested in Expansion or Diversification
  • Operating directly in the agricultural sector or related business sectors, such as
    • Processing
    • Warehousing
    • mportation and/or distribution of inputs
    • Export of agricultural produce etc.
   
When to approach the bank?
 

 Most often customers approach the bank when they actually need assistance and realize they have missed the crucial preparatory steps which could have made their case solid. To facilitate your request, especially in the case of a business concern, please take the proactive needed. These include:

 Preparing a business plan showing, (assets and liabilities, budget, cash-flow projection etc.)

Having preliminary discussion with the Credit Officer at your Branch in the course of your farm business even when you do not need credit assistance.
